We have been made aware of a highly sophisticated investment scam currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms such as WhatsApp.
The scam falsely uses the names and images of real employees, along with the company’s logo, to create a misleading sense of credibility. The fraudsters have developed fake websites, mobile apps, WhatsApp and social media accounts, impersonating major financial institutions, including Old Mutual Investment Group.
The fraudsters use these online platforms to deceive customers into believing that they are being offered an opportunity to invest in a highly lucrative AI investment platform with promises of quick, high returns. They are using official company logos and impersonating employees to appear legitimate.
We take the protection of customer information seriously and are taking appropriate steps to protect our customers and employees. Vigilance is crucial in combating this type of fraud. Be on the lookout for suspicious activity and offers that sound too good to be true.
Remember that Old Mutual Investment Group will never:
- ask you to share your bank details via social media or third-party message services
- add you to an unofficial social media or messaging group without your consent
- use AI tools to gather information
How to protect yourself from fraudsters and identity thieves:
- Check that the apps you download from the App store are verified and legitimate
- Check and verify all requests for personal information and only share information when you are 100% sure there is a legitimate reason to do so
- Never share login details such as passwords or banking pins with anyone. Remember Old Mutual Investment Group will never contact you to ask for your username or password
