Our CommunityMaking a positive and lasting impact in our communities
is both good for us and good for our business.

      Giving back to Our Community

Old Mutual has a long history of supporting the communities where its staff and customers live and work. Corporate social responsibility is deeply entrenched in our culture. We are particularly passionate about education and much of what we do is aimed at educational development. Through the Green Hands Trust, staff give of their time and money to address a range of community needs. Our Imfundo Trust, on the other hand, offers full scholarships to deserving black students, paying for their tertiary education at selected South African institutions.
      Green Hands

Through Green Hands, staff donate both money and time to various outreach initiatives in our communities and beyond. Green Hands is about more than just a hand-out and a smile. It is about us rolling up our sleeves and working together with our communities. While we try to help most of the causes that are brought to our attention, our core focus is on education. Each project aims to ultimately create self-sustainability among our funding beneficiaries and establish effective partnerships along the way.

Download the Green Hands Annual Report for more on the projects and the many people we encountered along the way.

      Imfundo Trust

Imfundo means "education" in isiZulu. This scholarship programme finances deserving black students’ tertiary education. As part of our commitment to Old Mutual’s economic transformation strategy, which has education and skills development as its critical pillars, we established the Imfundo Trust in 2011. The Trust aims to develop black investment professionals, with a bias towards black women and students from peri-urban areas. This full scholarship covers tuition, books, accommodation and meals, as well as providing pocket money. Fields of study include commerce (with special emphasis on accounting and statistics), law, engineering, science and agriculture.
