We are excited to start 2022 by sharing some great news! Morningstar has ranked the Old Mutual Global Equity Fund amongst the top 10 global equity active funds in South Africa for delivering the highest return over 10 years to December 2021. The fund has generated a return of 21.9% per annum and currently has a portfolio size of R26bn. This is a great achievement and while we are very proud of this, we are also humbled given the wide range of expertise across fund managers in South Africa.
In addition, the Old Mutual Global Equity Fund is the number one ranked fund in the sector over 15 years with an annualised performance of 13.8%, and over 20 years with an annualised performance of 11.0%. The recent market performance coupled with consistent outperformance over the longer term, has helped the Old Mutual Global Equity Fund take top position among its peers.
One of the investment principles that have been further embedded by recent events is the importance of diversifying investments across sectors, assets, and geographies. Launched in May 1995, the Old Mutual Global Equity Fund is a rand denominated fund holding a well-diversified portfolio of an average of 450 shares out of an opportunity set of more than 5000 shares in developed markets globally.
Of course, there are many ways to invest offshore, however local unit trusts that invest globally are advantageous as they are affordable at a minimum of R500 a month or a R10 000 lump sum. They are also accessible as there is no requirement for a tax clearance certificate from SARS.
